Graham Potter a failed West Ham United experiment
West Ham United had real diffculty replacing David Moyes, with Julen Lopetegui coming and going in the space of a few short months. In the Spaniard’s place came Graham Potter, who was looking to rebuild his reputation after a failed spell at Chelsea. But the experiment with Potter was a failed one. Lacking the personnel to really play his style of football, his stint lasted just eight months before the Hammers opted to replace him with Nuno Espirito Santo in September 2025.
Graham Potter: Road to West Ham United
Potter’s path was not a particularly well-trodden on, given he made his name as a coach with Ostersund in Sweden. He would later take the Swansea City job for less than a year before jumping ship to Brighton. He did a decent job at the Amex Stadium, which earned him a move to Chelsea where things just never got going for him. But that paled in comparison to the dismal eight-month spell he endured at the London Stadium between January and September 2025.
Graham Potter: Career achievements
Potter came onto the radar of several clubs in England following his success with Ostersund in Sweden. He has never really been able to truly replicate that success in English football, and he has now returned to Sweden to coach the national team.
