West Ham United table £25.9m bid for Edson Alvarez, £150k p/w five-year deal agreed
West Ham have made a £25.9m verbal offer to Ajax for midfielder Edson Alvarez after agreeing a five-yea deal worth £150k per-week, according to Mike Verweij.
Writing on his personal Twitter account (5 August), the Telegraaf journalist reports that the Hammers have made an offer verbally and will put it on paper later today, which will see talks between Sven Mislintat and Tim Steidten begin.
A deal is expected to close “soon”, with Ajax wanting €35m (£30.2m) + €5m (£4.3m) to let the Mexico international leave after personal terms were agreed on Friday (4 August).
“West Ham United place verbal first offer for Edson Alvarez with Ajax: 30 million euro (£25.9m),” he wrote.
“Midfielder personally (verbally) agrees with The Hammers on commitment until summer 2028. Annual salary 9 million euros (£7.7m/£150k p/w) gross.”
Beautiful
The summer transfer window has been an absolute nightmare for West Ham so far, losing Declan Rice and Gianluca Scamacca and failing to bring anyone in just one week before the season is due to start.
But it seems the club have finally woken up and Steidten has been given the go ahead to get some deals done for his European targets, starting with Ajax’s North American star.

Alvarez is a fantastic defensive midfielder with excellent ability on the ball and a real aggression that will suit the Premier League and David Moyes’ style of football.
What’s annoying is that this deal could have been done weeks ago but the Hammers just dithered for whatever reason, and he’ll now have limited time with his new team if the deal happens.
We should stress that it’s not a done deal yet but we have a clear run at the player and the fee wanted isn’t far from what we offered, so it should happen quickly if it’s going to happen at all.
In other West Ham news, ace may never play for his club again as West Ham make their move.
