West Ham United meeting with Ruben Amorim ‘not positive’ in fresh twist amid David Moyes sack verdict

West Ham United have been dealt a blow in their chase to appoint Ruben Amorim after their first meeting was “not positive”, according to Pedro Sepulveda.

Writing on his personal X account, the reliable journalist reports that the Sporting CP manager unexpectedly returned to Lisbon on Monday 22 April after holding talks about replacing David Moyes at the end of the season.

However, the meeting didn’t go as planned with Sepulveda revealing that “something went wrong” during talks.

“Something went wrong,” he wrote. “The plane that took Ruben Amorim to London this afternoon is already returning to Lisbon.

“The coach who is still negotiating with Liverpool and met West Ham for the first time today is back in Lisbon. The meeting was not positive.”

He also added that the private jet the Portuguese boss travelled in was not paid for by West Ham owner David Sullivan or the club.

Should Ruben Amorim replace David Moyes at West Ham United?

There’s no doubting that Moyes’ time at the club has come to its natural conclusion and most people now seem to be on the same page with that.

However, there are big question marks about who could potentially replace him with plenty of people remembering how badly things went when Manuel Pellegrini came in previously.

But Amorim is one of the hottest properties in the management world right now and is on the verge of winning a second Portuguese Liga title with Sporting CP.

He has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield but the Hammers have made a big play to bring him in and make a statement.

If he is willing to move to the London Stadium, which reports say he is, then the club should be doing everything they can to make it happen. It would be a huge statement of intent and a real coup too.
