Fresh West Ham United transfer twist as Fabrizio Romano shares Valentin Carboni update
West Ham United have not made a bid for Inter Milan starlet Valentin Carboni and he will stay on loan at Monza this month, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Writing on his personal Twitter account (27 January), the reliable transfer journalist reports that no bid has been made by the Hammers for the talented playmaker despite reports of a £9.3m bid.
And his report has been backed up by Monza CEO Adriano Galliani who confirmed that the 18-year-old would be staying with his team “for sure”.
“Monza CEO Adrian Galliani has played down the links with West Ham move for Valentin Carboni: ‘It’s not happening,’ Romano wrote.
“‘Bid from West Ham? He’s staying at Monza for sure’.
“Inter have never received a formal proposal from West Ham for Carboni despite rumours.”
Makes sense
It wouldn’t be a surprise if West Ham had an interest in Carboni because Tim Steidten is very good at spotting young talent and getting deals done.
But there are strong reports of interest in young Ibrahim Osman who plays a similar role and is of a similar profile, and he is said to be one for the future.
Carboni wouldn’t come into the side and make an immediate impact in the first-team considering the options David Moyes already has, even with injuries currently, and if Osman is coming in they wouldn’t both be able to develop.
It may be a deal to revisit in the summer when there is more clarity on the futures of players like Said Benrahma, Danny Ings, Pablo Fornals and Maxwel Cornet.
It always seemed like a farfetched rumour and it’s now been proven so, but it’s one to keep an eye on for future windows as there is usually no smoke without fire.
