West Ham United want to sign Jonathan David ahead of Tottenham after exit development
West Ham United want to sign Lille star Jonathan David ahead of Tottenham, Manchester United and Aston Villa this summer, according to iNews.
Writing on their website (19 June), the news outlet reports that the Canada international is available for transfer as he enters the final year of his contract and £25million is expected to be the fee the French side wants.
But the Hammers would need to pip their Premier League rivals to his signature too, with United already holding talks with his representatives about a move to Old Trafford.
West Ham United need a new striker, Jonathan David is him
There has been a lot of speculation about summer transfers at the London Stadium in this window, and a striker is expected to be of the utmost priority for Julen Lopetegui.
Michail Antonio is wanted by clubs in the MLS and Saudi [Athletic, 15 May], and Danny Ings is a target for Southampton [talkSPORT, 28 May] which leaves the new manager with no options up front.
Youssef En-Nesyri has been heavily linked but that seems unlikely to happen, and with Lille open to doing a deal and David’s record being so impressive West Ham would be crazy not to look at him.

The Canada international has scored 26 goals in 48 caps for his national team and has hit 52 goals in the last two seasons in all competitions for Lille too, showing he is a reliable finisher in front of goal.
At 24 he is only going to get better too, and it would seem like a no-brainer to get this deal done sooner rather than later to prevent other teams from potentially getting there first.
In other West Ham news, the club have made an approach to sign a player who has started at Euro 2024.
