Edson Alvarez could get West Ham escape route with manager who went famous at World Cup

Edson Alvarez has had a huge question mark around his future at West Ham United for months now.

The Mexican midfielder spent last season on loan at Fenerbahce, but returned this summer without a permanent move.

Nuno Espirito Santo hasn't rushed to use him at the London Stadium, with consistent links to another move coming to nothing.

Now, the transfer window has slammed shut in most countries outside of Asia.

Alvarez was a surprise inclusion in the Carabao Cup win over Portsmouth, but he hasn't been used since.

After all of that, he may have a bigger eye on an exit than ever.

Who could Edson Alvarez join?

Ironically, it's developments in Mexico that could see him seal his next move.

Javier Aguirre managed his country to the summer's World Cup, with Alvarez as his captain for most games when used.

The Mexicans famously crashed out of their home tournament after a 3-2 defeat to England at the Azteca.

Now, they could be reunited.

As Aguirre left Mexico, he has now linked up with Valencia in La Liga, and that could see Alvarez come into discussion.

Scouts in Attendance has stated on X that Alvarez could see that appointment as an "escape route" from West Ham.

It seems Alvarez could join up with Aguirre once again, but not right away.

Most fans in England won't have known who Aguirre was before that night at the Azteca, but they certainly did after.

The manager went famous for a video clip of him talking to Jude Bellingham, only to seconds later shout an expletive at Anthony Gordon, before they both laughed.

Now, when could Alvarez actually join Valencia?

For it to happen immediately, he would need to have his contract terminated by West Ham.

Signing a five-year contract back in 2023 that was worth up to £148,000-a-week, that's likely dropped since with loans and relegation.

With another couple of years left, though, unless Valencia or Alvarez himself contribute to his contract being cancelled, he's going nowhere.

It may be a waiting game, regardless of this escape route.
