Konstantinos Mavropanos watched by European club up close as West Ham exit fears amplify
Konstantinos Mavropanos may not be a West Ham United player for much longer.
The Greece international has been superb for the Hammers since they dropped down to the Championship.
With five goals in nine league games already - one goal less than Jarrod Bowen - the centre-back is the joint-fourth top scorer in the division.
Mavropanos has just two clean sheets, which is an area Nuno Espirito Santo is working on, but he remains one of the star men in the squad.
After being linked with a move away from the London Stadium in the summer without anything happening, Mavropanos' name is again in the gossip columns.
And it appears one European club are particularly interested in signing the 28-year-old early in the New Year.
Konstantinos Mavropanos scouted on Greece duty
Not only has Mavropanos started 11 times for West Ham this season, he also started all four of Greece's recent UEFA Nations League matches.
That includes the 1-0 win his side managed away at Germany on 27 September.
According to Takvim, Besiktas director of football Eduard Graf was in attendance in Augsburg to watch the defender up close.
The Turkish outlet adds that the 16-time Super Lig champions are hoping to sign Konstantinos in the upcoming transfer window.
He is one of two names on manager Vincenzo Italiano's list, along with Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin.
Besiktas intend to contact West Ham to ask about the terms of a deal.
While the Irons will not be looking to sell, it may well be that money speaks in this situation.
What is latest we know on Mavropanos' West Ham future?
West Ham did well to keep hold of Mavropanos in the summer transfer window.
Doing so again in January will also be difficult, albeit less so - on paper, at least - if the Hammers are well positioned for promotion.
It was recently reported that Mavropanos is not close to signing a new West Ham deal.
The Greek - hailed a "beast" by Troy Deeney on Match of the Day in May - is therefore due to become a fee agent in 2028, so his value will plummet after next summer if he is still in East London.
Nuno will certainly not want to lose Mavropanos before promotion is earned, but beyond that it is then anyone's guess what happens next.
