Jose Mourinho wants to sign Jota Silva ahead of West Ham United as £12.6m transfer update emerges

Jose Mourinho wants to hijack West Ham United’s move to sign Vitoria Guimaraes attacker Jota Silva, according to ABola.

Writing on their official website (15 June), the Portuguese news outlet report that the winger is someone Mourinho likes after taking over as manager of Fenerbahce earlier this month, but no official move has been made.

Julen Lopetegui is also interested in the 24-year-old and despite reports that the club are closing in on a deal for him [Sebastiao Sousa Pinto, 27 May], A Bola say no official offer has arrived from the Hammers yet.

Silva has a release clause worth €20million (£17million), but a bid worth €15million (£12.6million) is expected to be enough to get the green light from the Guimaraes board.

Jose Mourinho to harm West Ham United’s transfer plans?

The Hammers have already added to their squad this summer with the arrival of exciting youngster Luis Guilherme in a big-money move, but more additions are necessary.

Several players are expected to move on with Danny Ings, Michail Antonio, Maxwel Cornet and Said Benrahma all tipped to leave, which means new arrivals must be sought after.

Silva is a talented player and had a career-best season in 2023/24 with 15 goals and seven assists in 42 appearances, so clearly has something to offer.

However there is plenty of interest in the Portuguese international and with the forward not being called up to the Euro 2024 squad there is plenty of time for a deal to be done.

West Ham will need to move quickly to get it done however as Mourinho is someone known to get what he wants, and his “Special One” aura still holds weight.

In other West Ham news, Lucas Paqueta’s hearing is “several months away” for spot-fixing charges.
