England star could become first Potter deal as West Ham interest revealed
West Ham United are interested in a deal to bring Angel Gomes to the London Stadium, according to talkSPORT.
The radio station’s website (17 January) has reported that previous target Gomes is a player of whom the Irons are fond, with potential to make him their first signing under Graham Potter.
The Lille star has attracted Premier League interest following the excellent displays in Ligue 1 which earned him a spot in the England squad under Lee Carsley.
Gomes’ teammate Jonathan David has also been suggested in the report in a long list of strikers to potentially make the switch to the London Stadium during the winter window.
West Ham want to bring Angel Gomes back to London
West Ham are clearly prioritising a striker in the current market and rightly so, with long-term attacking injuries having plagued Potter immediately upon arrival.
However, the midfield could also do with strengthening and Gomes’ agile, diminutive style of play has been a huge hit in France.
The 24-year-old has featured in the Premier League as a teenager with Manchester United, so has grown up learning the demands of the English game throughout his academy years.
Learning his senior trade with Portuguese side Boavista, Gomes has gone on to become an important player for Lille and subsequently earn his four England caps to date, but is out of contract with the Frenchmen at the end of the season.

The midfield man has spent a recent period on the sidelines with a calf injury, but returned on 10 January after two months out with a quarter of a game against Auxerre.
Gomes was born in London and while Lille sits only 90 minutes away on a train, Stratford and the East End are just that little bit closer to home.
In other West Ham news, pressure is building on Tim Steidten in the window after the past few months.
