Aaron Cresswell expected to leave West Ham United this summer amid fresh update

Aaron Cresswell is expected to leave West Ham United this summer when his contract expires, according to The Boot Room.

Writing on their website (25 April), the news outlet report that the veteran left-back is unlikely to receive a new contract once the season comes to a conclusion, bringing an end to his ten-year run at the club.

Cresswell was linked with an exit to Wolves last summer but it never materialised, and the 34-year-old has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season, registering one goal along the way.

Aaron Cresswell exit has been coming at West Ham

Cresswell has been a loyal servant to the Hammers over the years, and was a favourite of David Moyes’ during the early years of his tenure at the club.

But in recent years the club have moved away from Cresswell as a regular, with Emerson Palmieri making the left-back spot his own since his arrival from Chelsea.

He has sometimes filled in as a third centre-back too, but with the expectation that Moyes will be leaving the club this summer in the search of a more attacking style, that seems unlikely to be a thing anymore.

Cresswell is now well into his thirties and undoubtedly on a downward trajectory in his career, and if he isn’t playing regularly currently then there is no need for a new contract to be offered. It means he will likely join Lucas Paqueta in leaving, who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City.

Most people would have been expecting this outcome anyway, and hopefully the fans will be able to give him a good send off in the final home game of the season against Luton.

In other West Ham news, the club have scouted this “goal God” more than once ahead of a potential summer transfer.
