Adama Traore in line for Marco Silva reunion as contact made ahead of West Ham exit

Adama Traore could find an exit route from West Ham United under former boss Marco Silva.

The Spaniard only joined the Hammers in the January transfer window on a short-term deal involving a transfer fee of just £2million.

It represented a chance for Fulham to get him off their books while also allowing Nuno Espirito Santo to link up with a favourite from his Wolves days.

Things haven’t quite worked out at the London Stadium as the winger was a bit-part player before relegation to the Championship was confirmed.

Adama now looks destined to leave West Ham, with a move to the continent emerging as a possibility ahead of the summer.

Adama Traore could join Marco Silva at Benfica

The former Barcelona man looked like he was going to be a useful signing for the Irons in their hunt to remain in the Premier League.

Nuno clearly wanted the 30-year-old, but hardly utilised the attacker across the second half of the campaign.

Relegation has now all but sealed his fate in East London as he looks set to move on when his contract expires.

His agent is already working to find his next destination, with Portuguese outlet Bola na Rede reporting on Monday that he has been offered to Benfica by his representatives.

The chances of him joining the Liga Portugal giant would become more likely if Silva were to take the job after his recent links with a Fulham departure.

West Ham Adama Traore to Benfica

The 48-year-old manager has previously worked with the Spaniard, and a link-up could now be on the cards at Estadio da Luz.

Adama’s contract is ready to expire at West Ham, and he could be set to fall upwards with a move to the 38-time Portuguese champions.

How much did Adama cost West Ham in total?

The winger didn’t even make a positive impression at the London Stadium, but could find himself playing Europa League football next season.

That is pretty wild for someone who didn’t exactly impress for a relegated side and will arguably be seen as a waste of money.

His £2m fee may not have been the biggest transfer ever, but reports suggest that he was paid a weekly salary of around £70,000 in claret and blue.

That equates to a wage in the region of £1.6m for his spell with the Hammers, meaning that he cost approximately £3.6m for six months.

It’s safe to say that a spend of £300,000 per appearance hasn’t been worth it for Adama, but he could still find himself at Benfica next season, somehow.
