West Ham can’t ignore Kevin Schade threat as Brentford star as dangerous as Igor Thiago

West Ham United have to limit Kevin Schade’s impact on their game against Brentford, as the winger has been excellent for the Bees this season.

A London derby awaits West Ham on Saturday, as Nuno Espirito Santo takes his side to the Gtech Community Stadium for a clash with Brentford.

The Hammers are in strong form over recent games, with two wins and one draw from their last three Premier League outings.

Meanwhile, Brentford are in the midst of a six-game winless run in the league, and as such, are now at risk of falling out of the race for European football.

West Ham need a positive result against Brentford with a tough final three games in store afterwards, but in order to do so, nullifying the Bees’ attacking threats is going to prove quite a challenge.

How good has Kevin Schade been for Brentford this season?

West Ham are the underdogs against Brentford, despite the fact the Hammers are the form team ahead of Saturday’s game.

Indeed, Nuno’s men defeated Keith Andrew’s side in the fifth round of the FA Cup on 9 March, on a day where Jarrod Bowen and Igor Thiago both bagged braces for their respective teams.

Thiago has been the jewel in Brentford’s crown this season, with 21 goals and one assist from 34 league appearances, as well as netting three times across cup competitions.

As such, the 24-year-old clearly presents the obvious danger to West Ham, but he’s far from the only one, and Nuno can’t get hung up on shutting down the Brazilian.

Left-winger Schade has also been brilliant for the Bees in 2025-26, and whilst Thiago often takes the headlines, the 24-year-old German’s performances can get lost in that regard.

He’s contributed seven goals and three assists in 31 Premier League games, but his true impact is seen in his underlying numbers.

As per FotMob, Schade has an expected goals (xG) of 11.1 and a non-penalty xG of 10.3 in the league this season, both of which are the highest of any left-winger in the top flight this season.

He’s also won 174 duels and 78 aerial duels, which are both again the most of any Premier League left-winger in 2025-26.

On top of this, he’s created 28 chances, taken 51 shots with 22 on target, has 23 headed shot attempts, has taken 128 touches in the opposition box and has won two penalties.

In the defensive side of his game, Schade has recorded 36 tackles, 18 interceptions, made 88 recoveries and has registered a total of 173 defensive contributions – in short, he’s absolutely everywhere for Brentford.

What is Schade’s individual record vs West Ham?

So, as much as West Ham need to focus on stopping Thiago on Saturday, they must spend equally as much preparation time on conjuring up a plan to nullify Schade.

He’s well overdue a goal too, with his last coming against Burnley in a 4-3 win on 28 February this year.

But, what is Schade’s individual record against West Ham like? Has he enjoyed his meetings with the Irons?

Well, as per Statmuse, the German international has played four times against West Ham in the Premier League, from which he’s scored one and provided one assist.

He’s also been on the winning time on three of those occasions, losing once, but he has gone without a goal contribution from his last two league clashes with the Hammers.
