Why Crysencio Summerville is now closer than ever to leaving West Ham
Roma are in the final stages of completing a deal for West Ham United's Crysencio Summerville.
This long and ever-twisting transfer saga appears to finally be coming to an end.
Summerville has been widely expected to leave West Ham this summer, with his form in the Premier League last season offering little Hammers hope of retaining him in the Championship.
The 24-year-old Netherlands international has played 56 times in competitive competitions for the Irons, and Roma having been pushing hard to sign him over the past few weeks.
With interest from across European football, the winger hasn't been short of options for his next adventure.
And, West Ham may finally be able to shift their focus to recruiting new players, with Summerville set to bring in a hefty cash injection.
How Crysencio Summerville has reacted to Roma approach
West Ham Zone has recently covered reports suggesting Roma were hoping to sign Summerville for less than his £45million release clause.
It would seem as though they've been able to achieve that too, as per a fresh report from top Italian transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio via his own website.
He claims that Roma have launched a €46m euros (£39.1m) bid for Summerville, with the Italians feeling confident that the winger has agreed to the move after being impressed by the project.
As such, it's stated that Roma hope to conclude the deal ASAP, after the player has seemingly signed off on the switch.
So, with £39m set to land in West Ham's account, how should the Hammers go about reinvesting that money?
West Ham have three key positions to use Summerville money on
It has perhaps been a case of West Ham waiting to get their big-money exits completed, and Jarrod Bowen's future sorted, before they could really start their recruitment drive.
But, with Mateus Fernandes gone and Summerville now set to follow, Nuno Espirito Santo may finally get to welcome some new faces to his squad
There are perhaps three main areas of need to prioritise though, and that's in central defence, central midfield and on the left wing.
All three of Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo and Konstantinos Mavropanos could be heading out the door in the coming weeks, and that would leave Nuno with just a handful of academy talents as his remaining options here.
So, in an ideal world, West Ham will probably be looking to sign two, maybe even three new centre-backs before the window closes to form the backbone of their promotion push.
Then the engine room could do with some fuel added to it, as Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, George Earthy and Soungoutou Magassa again could all possibly leave this summer.
Even if half of those players stay, if the Hammers are going to dominate their Championship rivals next season, they will need a considerable amount more quality in the middle of the park.
Then, of course, comes the tough task of replacing Summerville on the left flank.
West Ham won't be expecting to sign a player of his similar quality as a second-tier side, but reinstalling some of his fundamental attributes such as his pace, flair and ball-carrying ability can be done.
Now that Bowen is staying on, if the Irons can find another classy player to pair up with him, Nuno's side should have all the firepower they need at Championship level to blow many teams away.
