Roma are trying to sign Crysencio Summerville for below his West Ham United release clause.

Summerville, 24, was a shining light in West Ham's relegation from the Premier League last season, while he also served as a beacon of hope for the Netherlands in what was a disappointing World Cup campaign for them.

Last term, the former Leeds winger scored seven goals and supplied five assists in 34 appearances across all competitions, before winning a debut call-up to the Dutch national squad and scoring twice in North America.

Summerville's performances have now attracted the gaze of Roma, who have had to delay their summer plans so far due to financial restrictions.

In the print edition of Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport on Saturday, it was reported that Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini will hold a press conference in the coming hours amid increasing pressure to get deals done in Italy's capital.

Despite their transfer woes this summer, Summerville does look like someone who's increasingly likely to swap London for Rome.

What Roma are trying to pay West Ham for Crysencio Summerville's services

It is understood that Summerville's release clause at West Ham is valued at £45million.

However, the Italians are planning to spend less than that, because they want to buy the Dutch winger in a double deal - worth £59.9m - that also includes Strasbourg left-back Diego Moreira.

Corriere Dello Sport says that Strasbourg could accept £25.5m for Moreira, meaning that Roma are likely to try and sign Summerville from the Hammers for as little as £34m - £11m less than his release clause.

Whether or not the Irons will accept this remains to be seen, but, as West Ham Zone covered on Friday, Jarrod Bowen is now staying put for the 2026-27 Championship season.

And that could have a knock-on effect on Summerville's future.

Why Jarrod Bowen's deal is important

With Bowen staying put at the London Stadium for at least another year, there's likely going to be an increased need to cash in on high-value, high-earning players.

Mateus Fernandes has been sold to Tottenham for £85.5m, while Callum Wilson, Adama Traore and Lukasz Fabianski have all left as free agents.

But there are still a whole host of international stars on the books at West Ham, including El Hajdi Malick Diouf, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Edson Alvarez and, of course, Summerville.

It would be a surprise if the Hammers didn't have to cash in on multiple senior first-team players in order to simply avoid over-spending this season in the Championship.

Bowen staying means there's a heightened urgency over selling a player like Summerville, which unfortunately puts the ball in Roma's court.
