West Ham have convinced Jarrod Bowen to agree to a new contract.

The London Stadium's captain was the subject of plenty of speculation but now that has been put to bed.

There were doubts that he was willing to stick around and help them get out of the Championship, after his nine goal and 11 assist season in the Premier League.

West Ham Zone has previously covered Bowen's future plans extensively, including interest from Aston Villa.

The Hammers have pulled off their biggest summer deal by getting him to lead their promotion push.

Now, the way that Nuno Espirito Santo's side achieved it has been revealed in a new update.

How West Ham convinced Jarrod Bowen to stay put

Bowen has now signed a revised contract which does not extend the length, as it will still run until 2030, according to The Athletic.

A report from TEAMtalk on Friday claimed that the club have been working flat out to secure his future.

It states that they held discussions about the vision for a return to the Premier League.

His importance to that ambition was highlighted, as both just a player and as the skipper.

The report also states that he will be the highest paid star in the second tier, which will have surely helped him to reach the decision.

Why losing Bowen would have had serious implications for West Ham

Losing Bowen would have been a disaster for the Hammers, as he is such an important player.

In would have had an impact in their on-pitch performances, given his quality, but most importantly, would have raised serious questions off the pitch.

He is a natural leader, and he often took responsibility for the failures of the previous campaign, as well as trying his best to keep the squad together from a morale standpoint.

It would have sent the wrong message to the dressing room, had the Irons given in and sold him.

Now, with the 29-year-old's future resolved, they can focus on getting the rest of their business done, and building a platform for success heading into the 2026-27 campaign.

Having him at the forefront will surely help their chances of immediate promotion back to the elite level, and could convince targets to join too.
