The Greek defender's influence was clear last season, with the 28-year-old winning the Hammer of the Year award.

Following West Ham's relegation, there was a general feeling among the fans that a player of his quality could be sold this summer.

But the Irons are maintaining a staunch position over many of their top stars as they seek an instant return to the top flight.

There have been many suitors emerging for the defender over the last few weeks, but no concrete offers have arrived.

And with reports that West Ham were in talks with Mavropanos over his contract coming out, a new update has been shared.

What is the status with Konstantinos Mavropanos' contract talks?

West Ham Zone has previously covered reports that Mavropanos was in talks over a new West Ham contract agreement.

However, there has been a twist in the story with conflicting information now coming out.

According to Greek journalist Konstantinos Lianos, who writes for The Sun and appears on Sky Sports, that is not the case.

The reporter took to X on Monday, stating: "There are currently no contract talks between West Ham and Mavropanos."

Additionally, the journalist reiterates that the centre-back has plenty of interest in him this summer

But there are no indications currently that he will be allowed to leave ahead of the 2026-2027 season. Although that could change.

Why West Ham can't allow Mavropanos exit

West Ham are already extremely light in the centre-back department, so allowing perhaps their best defender to leave would be shooting themselves in the foot.

The Hammers need to add more defensive reinforcements, rather than letting any leave.

Too many changes in defence would not be the continuity required for a promotion push, so the news that there are no current plans to allow Mavropanos to leave is certainly a significant boost.

Mavropanos' name has been linked with the likes of Arsenal, with interest from within the Bundesliga also touted.

Borussia Dortmund were previously keen on signing Mavropanos, pitching their project to the Hammers star.

As things stand, Jean-Clair Todibo looks the more likely to exit after the Frenchman informed Nuno he would never play for him again.
