West Ham United transfers: Tim Steidten uses South American team to open talks for Brazil sensation Wesley
West Ham technical director Tim Steidten has instigated talks with Corinthians over left-back Wesley by using his own South American team, according to The Boot Room.
Writing on their website (25 April), the news outlet report that the Hammers are interested in signing the 19-year-old Brazil sensation as a replacement for Aaron Cresswell who is expected to depart this summer.
Chelsea are also interested in a deal for the player who is capable of playing all the way up the left flank, but Steidten has used his own team to open talks with the Brazilian club having scouted him since last summer.
“TBR understands that Hammers technical director Tim Steidten has instigated talks through his South American team – featuring former Brazilian international Naldo,” they wrote.
“West Ham are in the market for a new left-back/wing-back with Aaron Creswell expected to depart this summer. Wesley has now emerged as an option and has been watched by The Hammers since last summer.”
Tim Steidten using his connections to boost West Ham
The Hammers were adamant that they wanted to go in a different direction in the transfer market when they brought Steidten in last summer, and this is why.
The German is well connected around the world, and being able to get a headstart on transfers such as this where there is strong competition and tough negotiations ahead.
Steidten is well known in South America, having flown out last summer to try and secure the signing of Yuri Alberto, but it will be interesting to see how this lines up with whoever the manager is next season.

David Moyes looks like he is “definitely” leaving the club, and whoever is going to replace him will need to be on board with Steidten’s plans otherwise it’s going to cause another power struggle.
Steidten is clearly very good at what he does, and a new left-back will be needed. A £12.8m bid was already reportedly made and rejected which shows the club are serious, so this is one to keep a firm eye on.
In other West Ham news, PSG want to sign this Hammers star as a “priority” this summer.
