Jim White shares David Sullivan concern at West Ham United, Simon Jordan reacts

talkSPORT host Jim White has warned West Ham chairman David Sullivan that time is running out to bring in new players ahead of the summer transfer window closing.

The East London side continue to be linked with numerous names, most notably Mohammed Kudus and Konstantinos Mavropanos.

Speaking on the White & Jordan show on Friday [18 August, 10:54], White said: “I wonder if any time soon we’re gonna be talking about David Sullivan signing somebody? It’s getting on. We’re getting through the month, aren’t we?”

West Ham

But with James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez arriving over the past eight days, and the window open until 11pm on 1 September, White’s co-host Simon Jordan offered a different perspective on West Ham’s transfer business.

“It’s interesting because obviously there’s been certain rumblings about the relationships in the background with David Moyes and the technical director [Tim Steidten],” Jordan said. “They’ve sold Declan Rice. They’re gonna come under threat with [Lucas] Paqueta, so they’re going to need to replenish.

“They’re going to need to be able to give David the resources to at least give himself a competitive chance of doing something that doesn’t ultimately have him on the back end of people not being happy with his job.

“But it is the 18th of August. We still have 13 days to go and I would suspect that West Ham will do business that makes people sit up a little bit more than they currently are.”

Patience

It has been over a month since star midfielder Rice officially joined Arsenal in a £105million deal, while flop striker Gianluca Scamacca headed for Atalanta in a transfer rising to £27m at the start of the month.

In an ideal world, the Irons would have finalised their transfer business – including an upgrade on Scamacca – way before now.

But football transfers do not work like that, and United always knew they had until the start of September to finalise their squad.

With Steidten in Amsterdam to get a deal for Kudos over the line [Sky Sports], and the Irons considered the heavy favourites to sign Mavropanos from Stuttgart [Fabrizio Romano], West Ham’s squad should look a lot stronger in the coming days.

There will still then be time to potentially bring another player to the London Stadium before the window closes until January. Only then can the Irons’ transfer business be judged in full.

In other West Ham news, an Irons players is reportedly close to penning a new deal with the club.
