West Ham United transfer news as breakthrough emerges for James Ward-Prowse

West Ham have made a breakthrough in their bid to sign Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse, according to Sky Sports.

The news outlet reported on its live transfer feed on 8 August (10:51pm) that the club are growing “increasingly confident” of landing a deal for the England midfielder.

It said the Hammers are thought to be close to matching the Saints’ valuation of the 28-year-old, with the deal expected to be worth between £30million and £35million, while they are also expected to announce the signing of Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez.

Positive

It will no doubt be pleasing for West Ham fans to hear that another deal is edging closer to being completed after weeks of failure in the transfer market.

The club have been desperately trying to get a midfielder through the door since Declan Rice left for Arsenal and it now looks as though they could have two new arrivals in the next few days.

Edson Alvarez could complete his move to East London today (9 August) after Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth tweeted on 8 August that he has completed his medical ahead of his £34million move from Ajax.

The potential signing of Ward-Prowse will add further international experience to the Hammers’ midfield alongside the Mexican international ahead of the start of the new season.

It’s taken some time, but it looks as though we’re finally getting there in this transfer window and, hopefully, there will be plenty more business to come.
