West Ham United open to Kurt Zouma sale as medical scheduled on Friday
West Ham United are prepared to lose two centre-backs in due course as the club step up their pursuit of Max Kilman, according to Roshane Thomas.
Thomas claimed in The Athletic alongside Steve Madeley [5 July] that Zouma and Aguerd – now sharing the same agency – could both leave the club this summer as West Ham undergo a significant squad reshuffle, overseen by Tim Steidten.
Head coach Julen Lopetegui is however holding a large contribution in transfer dealings, with his former Wolves charge Max Kilman expected to become an Irons player in the coming days.
Ben Jacobs posted on X on the evening of 4 July confirming Kilman was the subject of an accepted bid of around £40m, and could even complete his medical before the weekend.
Zouma and Aguerd out, Kilman in for West Ham
With the signing of Kilman expected to be completed sooner rather than later, West Ham are ready to let Zouma and Aguerd depart.
The former Chelsea man captained the side for a period under David Moyes but is now into the final year of his contract and may not be first choice under the new boss, whilst former club Rennes are chasing Aguerd – who at the end of last season was already open to leaving London.
In Kilman, Lopetegui knows what he will be getting – a 6’4” powerhouse with not only the physical attributes to sustain a long career in the Premier League all the way from non-league, but also an advanced positional sense which can help settle a vastly changing Hammers setup on the field.
Kilman is 27, has an understanding with Lopetegui and has 127 top-flight appearances under his belt with Wolves.
The Hammers are also adjusting to life after Angelo Ogbonna, the veteran Italian leaving after nine years in a claret and blue shirt as Lopetegui looks to transition his defence as smoothly as possible.
