West Ham United: Manchester City update emerges over permanent Kalvin Phillips transfer
Manchester City do not expect Kalvin Phillips to remain at West Ham United beyond his initial loan spell at the London Stadium, according to Graeme Bailey.
The journalist reported via HITC (4 April) that the Premier League champions do not expect the Hammers to move to make the England international’s stay permanent after his loan spell ends in East London.
City are understood to have informed Phillips he doesn’t have a long-term future at the Etihad Stadium, but the 28-year-old still has four years left on his contract with Pep Guardiola’s side and his current deal is unlikely to be taken on by anyone else.
Will West Ham United sign Kalvin Phillips permanently in the summer transfer window?
Since he arrived at the London Stadium, Phillips has struggled for form in a claret and blue shirt and it has seemed unlikely that the Irons would be desperate to tie the midfielder down to a new long-term deal.
His first real involvement saw him gift Bournemouth a goal on his debut and it hasn’t got much better since then, with red cards, huge errors and even an exchange with a supporter capping off what has been a disaster of a loan switch.

Had Phillips hit the ground running, West Ham would likely be doing all that they physically could to move to the front of the queue for the City loanee’s signature, but at the moment it feels like there must be better options out there.
Hopefully, the 28-year-old will manage to begin to find his feet in East London and begin to enjoy his football again. But it will have to take a monumental turnaround for the Hammers to genuinely consider a permanent switch.
Stranger things have happened in the past, but very few will expect to see Phillips lining up at the London Stadium in August.
