West Ham United last-gasp transfer possible in new Rush Green update
Sky Sports reporter James Green has given a transfer update on West Ham United ahead of the 30 August deadline, saying any further incoming activity is “unlikely but not impossible”.
The Hammers have been one of the most active Premier League sides in the summer transfer window with nine new additions in East London.
Green, reporting outside the Rush Green training ground [Sky Sports News, 29 August, 1:50 pm], believes the business may not be over for Tim Stiedten at West Ham.
He said: “I spoke to the club this morning about transfers and they said ‘unlikely but not impossible’.
“This is a club that has been very active so far, but with 36 hours or so left until the deadline, it’s tricky to get more deals in but they’re not ruling anything out if it can propel the team forward. The likelihood is there will be plenty of outgoings.”
West Ham United will focus on departures
West Ham owner David Sullivan has backed Julen Lopetegui this summer with his dream transfer window and there could be one more arrival in East London.
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler is close to finalising a move to the Hammers. However, his move has been delayed as the club works on freeing up space in the squad [The Guardian].
Nayef Aguerd is on the chopping block and is the subject of a bid from Al-Ittihad [Santi Aouna] as his Hammers future must be resolved in the final hours of the window.
James Ward-Prowse is another deemed surplus to requirements by Lopetegui and could complete a shock return to Southampton [Give Me Sport], as his playing time in East London will be limited after the signing of Guido Rodriguez.
Kurt Zouma will finally leave the Hammers this summer [Dharmesh Sheth] as he undergoes a medical at Al-Orouba.
West Ham have sent a statement of intent to the Premier League with the business this summer and have emerged as a serious candidate for the European places this season.
It seems that Lopetegui is not yet satisfied with his Hammers squad and, with only one day left until the deadline and a lot of turning cogs, there could be another twist to the tale this summer.
