West Ham United join Georgiy Sudakov transfer race as £100million update emerges
West Ham remain interested in Shakhtar Donetsk ace Georgiy Sudakov as a multi-club transfer race heats up ahead of the summer transfer window, according to HITC.
The online source reported [10 April] that the Hammers, who were keeping tabs on the 21-year-old in November, have joined the likes of Liverpool, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Barcelona, PSG and Bayern Munich.
It is understood that Sudakov signed a new deal with the Ukrainian club until 2028, which has seen a release clause in excess of £100million enter his contract, though this has seemingly not disparaged the interested parties.
Could West Ham United sign Georgiy Sudakov this summer?
There is only one real eventuality where West Ham can afford to buy Sudakov this summer, and that is if Lucas Paqueta is sold, most likely to the current Premier League champions, Manchester City.
The Brazilian is a vital part of the Hammers’ attacking lineup, alongside Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus, a player that must be replaced if the worst was to happen this summer.
Of course, the hefty release clause does not mean that the club will end up earning that much from any proposed deal this summer, but Shahktar will feel no pressure to sell.
The attacking midfielder, who can also deputise on the left flank, much like Paqueta, is one of the most important players for the Ukrainian club, especially when it comes to European competitions.
Sudakov starred in all six of Shahktar’s Champions League matches, and despite dropping down to the Europa League and being knocked out by Marseille, the youngster will be able to hold his head high, scoring their only goal in a 3-1 loss in the second leg of a 5-3 aggregate defeat.
The youngster is already a mainstay for his national team, having made 14 appearances for Ukraine since 2020, most recently notching two assists as they bypassed Iceland to qualify for EURO 2024.
