West Ham transfer news as Angel Gomes decision made on deadline day

Angel Gomes will remain a Lille player for the rest of the campaign but West Ham could make a move for the Englishman when his contract expires in the summer, according to Mike McGrath.

The Telegraph journalist reported (3 February) that the Ligue 1 club have decided England international Gomes will not be departing France before the 11pm deadline but a move to the London Stadium could be on the cards in the summer.

West Ham are said to have been long-term admirers of the ex-Manchester United star [The Boot Room] but any deal will likely have to wait until the summer with the decision made ahead of the transfer window slamming shut.

West Ham must pursue Angel Gomes in the summer

While the Irons have an abundance of quality in the attacking third, additional quality and cover can never be a bad thing and the signing of Gomes would tick both of those boxes.

Added to that, the prospect of getting such a quality player on a free transfer should force the Hammers to jump at the opportunity and should they fail in their attempt, it would be a big, big miss.

However, it is simply a deal they need to attempt in the summer if they are to continue their progression under Graham Potter who has somewhat had his hands tied behind his back with the lack of depth at the London Stadium this season.

West Ham, having recently completed the signing of Evan Ferguson, will likely be keen to add at least one more attacking figure to their squad for the remainder of the current campaign while keeping a close eye on Gomes for the summer.
