‘West Ham nightmare continues for Guido Rodriguez’ as transfer door shuts

Graham Potter has some decisions to make on his West Ham squad after they fell way below expectations last season.

Mohammed Kudus was among those who underperformed, and he has since been sold to London rivals Tottenham.

Potter has made moves to strengthen his Hammers squad ahead of the Premier League campaign, with El Hadji Malick Diouf among the arrivals.

However, another departure could be on the agenda as Guido Rodriguez has been linked with a West Ham exit.

Rodriguez door shut amid transfer negotiations in Spain

It seemed that a return to Mexico could be on the cards, but Tigres and America have both distanced themselves from Rodriguez.

The defensive midfielder joined the East London club from Real Betis in the summer of 2024 on a free transfer.

Last season, the 31-year-old made 24 appearances in all competitions, although he only made 16 starts in the Premier League.

Celta Vigo are reportedly interested in signing Rodriguez, although there are many hurdles to clear before that move can happen.

The Argentine offered himself to his former club Betis, but they shut the door, according to Mexican commentator Jesus Barron (21 July).

He reports that there is another Spanish club that wants him and is negotiating with West Ham, although he does not state whether that is Celta Vigo.

Yesterday, Rodriguez was trending because America fans are demanding him back, while Tigres are also desperate for him.

West Ham would not miss Rodriguez

It would be unfair to blame Rodriguez for the Irons’ catastrophic 2024/25 campaign, as that was a team effort.

However, if he were to leave, West Ham supporters would forget about him in an instant.

Of course, there is an argument that it takes players time to adapt to a new league, and sometimes it takes a season to settle in.

However, Potter does not have time on his hands and must ensure he starts the Premier League season on the front foot.

The Argentina international has only been in East London for a year, but his exit could already be sanctioned, with that World Cup win seemingly a lifetime ago.
