Guido Rodriguez has endured a troubled spell at West Ham United.

Rodriguez, 31, arrived from Real Betis last summer on a free transfer as part of the Hammers' summer splurge that saw them spend over £100million.

However, the move has been a disaster, with the Argentine being a regular starter under Julen Lopetegui before dropping to a bench role under Graham Potter in 2025.

Rodriguez has only started four of West Ham's 18 Premier League games under Potter, which includes a run of just two minutes across 13 games between January and May.

The midfielder looks to be out of the picture for next season, and he has been offered an escape route.

Celta Vigo interested in Rodriguez

Alberto Bravo (21 July) has reported that Celta Vigo are interested in bringing the defensive midfielder back to La Liga this summer.

Contacts have been acknowledged for Rodriguez, but there are multiple conditions for the deal to be completed.

Vigo are currently focusing on improving their front line before they can get a deal for the midfielder done, while they also need a departure to be sanctioned before making a move.

The main issue with the deal is Rodriguez's high wages, with his reported annual salary of £2.6m being too high for any interested club.

Rodriguez needs a return to Spanish football

The Argentine was expected to come and solidify a Hammers defence that began to leak goals for fun at the end of David Moyes' reign, which included a humiliating 6-0 home defeat to Arsenal.

However, West Ham regularly recorded embarrassing scorelines last season after Rodriguez's arrival, including heavy defeats to Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool.

The midfielder hasn't worked since arriving in East London, and a departure back to Spain is best for all parties.
