West Ham make proposal to seal Adrien Rabiot transfer after Marseille bust-up chaos
West Ham are among the clubs to register their interest in a move for Adrien Rabiot, who is expected to leave Marseille in the coming days.
Graham Potter is hoping to add a midfielder, or two, to his squad before the window closes, with the Englishman under pressure after West Ham were smashed by Chelsea on Friday.
West Ham have attempted to sign Mateus Fernandes from Southampton, but an initial bid was turned down, and little progress has been made since.
West Ham have also been linked with Quinten Timber, brother of Jurrien, who could leave Feyenoord before the end of the transfer window.
But now, all eyes appear to be on Rabiot.

West Ham make Adrien Rabiot proposal amid Marseille chaos
Rabiot had looked set to stay at Marseille, with the midfielder enjoying a key role for Roberto De Zerbi’s team as they finished second in Ligue 1 last season.
That was, until the scenes that followed Marseille’s opening day loss to Stade Rennais.
The French club had failed to break down the home side’s defence, despite playing against 10 men for over an hour, and tensions were reportedly high in the changing room.
Adrien Rabiot:
- Joined Marseille last September on a free transfer.
- Spent time in the Manchester City academy.
- Played for PSG for six years before joining Juventus in 2019.
The events that followed saw Rabiot engage in a physical altercation with England under-21 national Jonathan Rowe, with the former reportedly striking the latter in the face.
In the aftermath, Marseille released an official statement which confirmed that both players had been placed on the transfer list, due to “unacceptable behaviour”.
Rowe has since moved to Serie A side Bologna, and Rabiot is expected to follow him out of the door imminently.
L’Equipe reported on 24 August that proposals have arrived from Galatasaray, Aston Villa, Inter and West Ham for the 30-year-old.
According to The Athletic, Marseille have set a £13million asking price for Rabiot.
West Ham must weigh up Adrien Rabiot decision
Rabiot is no stranger to disciplinary action; the midfielder has a long history of causing issues at clubs, with his mother, also his agent, never too far away from the story.
But the Frenchman also possesses a lot of talent, having scored 10 goals and provided five assists across all competitions for Marseille last season.
Adrien Rabiot | Ligue 1 2024/25 (per 90) |
Passes into final third | 5.21 |
Tackles | 1.71 |
Pass completion | 84.8% |
Progressive passes | 6.12 |
Ultimately, West Ham must weigh up whether the talent is worth the risk, with Rabiot likely to bring large wages and off-field issues with him if he does move to the Premier League.
