West Ham line up two new forward signings as permanent Niclas Fullkrug exit update emerges

Niclas Fullkrug’s time as a West Ham player is coming to an end.

West Ham need to be busy in the January transfer window, not only from an incoming point of view, but also to offload those who are not pulling their weight in the Premier League.

Fullkrug is one of them, having yet to score a goal for the Hammers this season, in a team that have lacked any real threat going forward.

His exit seems nailed on, and the latest update suggests that his departure could be key to some of the incoming business.

Niclas Fullkrug could leave West Ham on loan

Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg reported on Tuesday that West Ham are pushing for an exit for Fullkrug, with a loan move a potential option.

However, it would include a realistic obligation to buy, though the Hammers are yet to receive any formal offers for his services, despite rumoured interest from the Bundesliga in the past weeks.

Plettenberg also claims that any funds generated from Fullkrug’s departure would go towards the arrival of at least one attacking signing, with a second arrival possible.

West Ham have already been linked with a move to sign Franculino Dju, though it remains to be seen what type of forward they pursue in January.

Callum Wilson has been Nuno Espirito Santo’s go-to option this season, though improving in that area of the squad is going to be a priority.

Niclas Fullkrug will go down as one of West Ham’s worst-ever signings

Since joining in 2024 for a fee in the region of £27million, Fullkrug has scored just three goals for West Ham in 28 appearances.

Both of those numbers are concerning, given his lack of availability and lack of goal threat when picked to lead the line.

Strikers, or a lack of them, have been the issue at the London Stadium for several years now, and the failure in regard to the German should be a clear showcase as to what the Hammers need to target in January.

A target forward simply isn’t the answer to their concerns, and Nuno and co will almost certainly be aware of that.

Offloading Fullkrug is likely to be the first priority for West Ham, who have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks.
