West Ham have Alexsandro transfer encouragement as relegation clause claim emerges

LOSC Lille defender Alexsandro could potentially be the first new signing to come through the door at West Ham United in the winter transfer window.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s prospects at the London Stadium look bleak right now, with the Hammers predicted to suffer relegation from the Premier League.

Alexsandro is valued at £26million by Lille, and it looks like the Irons are ready to invest in their squad to avoid a nightmarish scenario in the English top flight.

It looks like the East London outfit are making progress to sign the 26-year-old centre-back in January, but they may have to make some concessions.

West Ham look to fix defence with Alexsandro transfer

Nuno has had Alexsandro on his wishlist since being appointed at the Hammers, the E20 club’s top transfer source says.

It’s been claimed that the Brazil international is the Irons’ top target, with initial talks over a move to the London Stadium encouraging.

Nuno wants the East London club to add the centre-back to their squad as soon as the winter transfer window opens, but it seems like they may need to include a relegation clause in a potential deal.

Speaking to Hammers News on 28 October, the source said: “The team simply must stop conceding goals at the rate they have been, and it looks like there’s only one way to fix that now. The Lille player was on Nuno’s list when he arrived, and he is the top target.”

The source added: “Early talks have been held over price and whether the deal can be done, and the signs are good. Ideally, Nuno wants him in the building in the first week of January, as every game is going to be so important. But the player will need assurances he can be allowed to leave if the worst happens because he wants to go to the World Cup with Brazil.”

Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo have underwhelmed at the London Stadium, with the two centre-backs failing to live up to expectations.

Konstantinos Mavropanos’ injury will be a bitter blow for Nuno, with the defender expected to be on the sidelines for at least four weeks.

With the Greece international sidelined, West Ham are forced to rely on Kilman or Todibo in the backline, with Igor Julio.

Once Mavropanos returns to full fitness, he should immediately partner the Brighton loanee to sure up the Hammers’ defence before they can strengthen their squad in January.

It remains to be seen how the situation unfolds over the next few matches, as the Irons can’t slip any further away from safety.
