Nuno Espirito Santo is looking to build a West Ham squad that can challenge for trophies.

West Ham's 1-1 draw against Everton was a step in the right direction after Nuno's first game in charge.

The point has instilled some belief and positivity into the club, as the West Ham fans remain unhappy with David Sullivan.

Nuno already has a midfield dilemma on his hands, but now he has to face a much bigger problem that was left by Julen Lopetegui.

Niclas Fullkrug, Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman among costly signings made under Julen Lopetegui

David Moyes described West Ham as “dark” under Lopetegui, with even former players coached by the ex-Hammers boss speaking out about his tenure.

Last summer, Lopetegui signed Niclas Fulkrug, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Max Kilman, as the trio's combined cost was just under £100m.

All three have been scrutinised since joining the club for poor performances, as Kilman has recently come under fire.

  • Fulkrug has only scored three goals for West Ham
  • Todibo was an unused substitute against Everton
  • Kilman played a big part in West Ham's demoralising 5-1 loss to Chelsea in August

While Kilman played the full 90 minutes in Nuno's first game in charge of West Ham, it remains to be seen if he will stay consistent for the new head coach.

Nuno now has a big January transfer window ahead to reshape his team.

One of West Ham's main problems right now is the lack of a goalscoring striker.

Fulkrug showed promising signs in pre-season that he could get back to the goalscoring form he once had in Germany, but he has failed to carry any momentum into this season.

Todibo could still be given a chance under Nuno, but if he fails to perform from now until January, then he should be sent on loan to regain first-team football.

West Ham should also be looking to replace Kilman in the January window, and this time, spend money wisely to give Nuno the tools he needs to rebuild the club.
