West Ham eye permanent deal for on-trial defender amid England call-up

West Ham are interested in signing Pierre Ewisie Nelson from Doncaster City.

Nuno Espirito Santo could spend well at West Ham in January as he looks ahead to his first transfer window in charge at the London Stadium.

There is an expectation for West Ham to conduct winter transfer business after a poor start to the season for the claret and blue outfit.

West Ham have been linked to Franculino Dju as an attacking option, but could also look to add to their defensive ranks.

The Hammers could move for non-league teenager Nelson as a move could become possible moving closer to January.

West Ham signed Igor Julio on deadline day of the summer window as Graham Potter looked to add more depth to his back line.

The Brazilian has hardly played since his temporary switch from Brighton and is bound to return to the Amex at the end of the campaign.

His exit would leave Nuno with a poorly equipped backline and truly without any sort of youthful exuberance to create excitement for the future.

Alan Nixon reported on 16 November that Doncaster City defender Nelson has been looked at by the Irons ahead of the January window.

The 17-year-old is set for a second trial spell in claret and blue after spending an initial week at Rush Green.

The non-league starlet has featured mainly as a right-back, but could grow as a centre-back after being handed a call-up to the England schoolboys squad.

Nelson could follow Daniel Cummings at West Ham

The Hammers may not be the greatest operators in the transfer window, but they have begun to flex their muscle with younger assets in recent months.

Nelson could prove to be the latest addition to the academy side in East London with a view to becoming part of the first team.

Daniel Cummings has followed a similar mould after coming in from Celtic over the summer after many positive seasons in the Hoops’ youth ranks.

The Scot could soon feature under Nuno after a shocking start to the season, with Nelson potentially seeing that as a chance to grow in claret and blue.
