Tomas Soucek namechecked at West Ham United in new Real Madrid transfer update
West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek has been namechecked by Spanish media as a potential option to replace Toni Kroos this summer, according to Sport.
The Spanish publication claimed in its print edition (22 June, 24 June) that Soucek is in the running because he’s a free agent, however, this isn’t the case as the midfielder signed an extension until 2027 in January 2024.
Sport also states that Kroos’ departure has left a “void” in the team that needs to be filled.
It continues and says that although midfield reinforcement isn’t in Carlo Ancelotti’s “road plan” this summer, the West Ham man is among those who could be targeted.
Why West Ham United need to retain Tomas Soucek this summer
Although a move is far from likely, especially after his extension in the winter, the prospect of the Czech Republic international leaving the Hammers is likely a scary thought for fans.
Although the midfielder hasn’t been at the same level this season following the departure of Declan Rice to Arsenal, the 29-year-old has been one of David Moyes’ most consistent players over the last few seasons.

He has been able to command the midfield and has started to form solid partnerships with the likes of James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez and, with Julen Lopetegui now in charge, it could be a breath of fresh air for the midfielder.
The London-based club will be looking to improve after a promising 2023/24 campaign stalled badly after the turn of the year and will no doubt be vying for European football once again.
The arrival of Luis Guilherme will no doubt help this and if a move for Wolves star Max Kilman comes to fruition [Shropshire Star, 21 June] West Ham will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with next season.
In other West Ham news, the future of Edson Alvarez has been thrown into question thanks to Manchester United’s interest.
