Tim Steidten faces questions at West Ham United if yet another transfer collapses
Tim Steidten is now under pressure to land Luis Guilherme after missing out on two other West Ham United targets, according to James Nursey.
The Hammers have so far failed to agree deals for Brazilian pair Wesley Gassova and Fabricio Bruno, of Corinthians and Flamengo respectively.
Steidten remains in South America attempting to unearth more gems, with Palmeiras ace Guilherme seemingly next on his list.
Writing on his personal X account [2 June], The Mirror’s Nursey wrote: “After trying & failing to land Brazilians Wesley Gassova ,19, from Corinthians & Fabricio Bruno, 28, from Flamengo, West Ham technical director Tim Steidten arguably needs £25m Luis Guilherme,18, from Palmeiras as much as the club. If Steidten misses out again, faces questions.”
West Ham United’s summer transfer targets
To give credit to the club, they have not wasted any time in trying to recruit new targets for this new era under Julen Lopetegui.
Plenty of names have already been linked, with Wesley and Bruno two of those, yet no deals have yet to get over the line.
The worry is that this is a theme that continues throughout the summer, and the club cannot afford to get desperate in seeking alternatives.
At the same time, if a club – or indeed a player – is asking for too much, United’s stance has to be respected in that they move on.
As the ultimate transfer chief at the club, the pressure is indeed on Steidten to finalise deals for targets that have been identified by the club.
Fingers crossed he has better luck snapping up Guilherme, with that one deal helping to then set the tone for what should be a busy summer.
