Scott McTominay development emerges at West Ham United amid James Ward-Prowse failure

West Ham are still interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay as an alternative to James Ward-Prowse, according to the Sun.

The newspaper reported via its live transfer blog on 2 August (04:26pm) that the Scotland international is still on the Hammers’ radar as they look to replace Declan Rice following his £105million move to Arsenal.

It said the 26-year-old is seen as “prime alternative” to Ward-Prowse after the Saints reportedly rejected a £30million bid for their captain on 2 August.

Won’t come cheap

This is yet another development in the ongoing saga around which midfielder West Ham are going to sign this summer after allowing Rice to leave a few weeks ago.

Ward-Prowse has always been in the mix due to how much David Moyes reportedly likes him, but the clubs are still well apart in their valuations of the player.

It’s probably going to be a similar situation for McTominay as Man United are not going to let him go on the cheap, with talkSPORT claiming on 26 July they are also looking for a fee in the region of £40million.

The Irons’ approach to this transfer window has been completely shocking – you would’ve thought the club’s hierarchy would’ve been clear in their minds and have a deal in place before letting Rice leave.

But that was clearly too much to ask and we’re stuck still chasing players that we could’ve signed weeks ago if it wasn’t for the terrible approach to negotiations.

In other West Ham news, David Moyes has been tipped to be the first PL manager to be sacked next season.
