Manchester United hope West Ham United return for Scott McTominay in summer transfer window

Manchester United are hopeful that West Ham will return for Scott McTominay in the summer as they aim to raise £100m in player sales, according to iNews.

Writing on their website (13 March), the news outlet report that the club are keen to raise cash to fund their own transfer wishes for the summer window and they could look to sell some academy players to do so.

Mason Greenwood is one player who could leave, but it’s also said that the club see McTominay as a player who is “replaceable” and they are hoping West Ham could make another move for him after having a bid rejected last year.

West Ham United don’t need Scott McTominay

Scott McTominay has had an interesting season at Old Trafford this year, scoring plenty of goals but never really being a regular in midfield.

But his skillset is something that would surely suit David Moyes more than Erik Ten Hag, and that’s why he could be a good option for the Hammers in the summer.

However, realistically it wouldn’t be a great signing and it’s clear that the money would be better spent elsewhere. Ultimately, he’s just a less polished version of Tomas Soucek.

He’s a strong runner, good in the air and physically solid but technically he is limited and with most fans hoping to see David Moyes move on in the summer anyway then that isn’t the route the club should be going down.

West Ham have done well to scout in the European market in recent years and there are better options out there for less money. The fact they want to get rid of him, shows that the Irons shouldn’t be trying to bring him in.
