David Moyes bound to quit West Ham United as news breaks live on Jim White talkSPORT show
David Moyes’ exit from West Ham is looking more likely after Alex Crook’s recent update regarding the arrival of Edson Alvarez from Ajax.
Crook claimed that the Mexican is close to completing a move to West Ham for £30milion with the move spearheaded by the club’s new sporting director Tim Steidten.
However, with the Daily Mail reporting on Friday (4 August) that Moyes’ position at the club could be in jeopardy due to the tensions between the Scot and Steidten, the fact this deal has gone through shows who the West Ham hierarchy is listening to.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan Show on Monday morning (7 August, 11:48am), Crook said: “Edson Alvarez, a midfield player that plays at Ajax. It looks like that one could well be developing.
“£35million [is] the fee, Alvarez is open to the move and I believe that this is Tim Steidten, the new sporting director, this is his man.
“We spoke about David Moyes maybe looking for British, Premier League-based players but it looks like the foreign market could be the way forward for West Ham.”
While Alvarez does look to be a quality addition to West Ham, the fact that this is a Steidten-sanctioned move shows that Moyes’ voice is perhaps being ignored in favour of the new boy.

Furthermore, Moyes was very keen on getting a deal for James Ward-Prowse over the line, with the Daily Record reporting (1 August) that he had pressured the board into paying the needed fee for the midfielder.
However, the club are reportedly considering other options after Southampton rejected their £30million bid, according to Sky Sports, which perhaps reveals that the club aren’t willing to back the Scot.
This means a sacking could be on the cards for Moyes while also explaining why West Ham have been so inactive in the transfer market this summer.
The Europa Conference League win may have saved the boss’ job this summer, as The Guardian claimed (2 June) that the boards’ faith in Moyes was waning before victory in the final.

The good faith around the club covered over the cracks of a poor league season for the club, and this tension looks to be renewed now the sheen has worn off the trophy win.
If West Ham did not see a future with Moyes, they should have sacked him sooner and planned a transfer policy around a new manager. Now, they look to be entering the new Premier League season weaker than before and with only one new signing, who is yet to be confirmed.
But no matter what happened in the past, the Hammers are now looking at a busy end to the transfer window if they want to make the most of their season. Moyes himself looks to be on a tightrope and will need a good start to the season if he wants to stay in East London.
In other West Ham news, amid rumblings regarding David Moyes’ future at the club, the Hammers have reportedly already made a manager short-list.
