Luizao to play final game on Sunday before sealing West Ham United transfer

Luizao is in advanced negotiations with West Ham over a January transfer and will say goodbye to his Sao Paulo teammates after his last game on Sunday.

The 20-year-old central defender has been linked with a move to the London Stadium in recent weeks, with his current contract set to expire at the end of January with no plans of renewing.

But according to journalist Gabriel Sa, he will play his final game for the Brazilian giants on Sunday before joining the Hammers during the winter transfer window.

“Luizão has advanced negotiations with West Ham, an England club, and should make his farewell to São Paulo next Sunday,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (11 November).

Luizao would become the sixth senior centre-back at the club after Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd, Craig Dawson, Angelo Ogbonna and Thilo Kehrer.

It’s widely expected that Dawson will be allowed to leave in January after coming close to an exit in the summer, as his wish has been to return to the north to be closer to his family.

With that in mind, David Moyes will be keen to replace him and it seems as though he has now settled on bringing in the young South American as a direct replacement.

Add to that the fact that Ogbonna is 34 years old and also in the final year of his contract at the club, while Zouma and Aguerd have suffered with injuries this season, it seems like a shrewd bit of business.

It’s definitely one for the future, but Moyes has always had a good eye for a defender and the aggression and physicality he has at 20 years old is something that could be moulded into a truly top transfer.

His wages are likely to be relatively low, and with no transfer fee required, it’s a risk free deal and one that could be a stroke of genius in the years to come.
