Fabrizio Romano shares West Ham United update on pursuit of wonderkid Wesley Gassova
West Ham United will learn of their prospects of signing Brazilian wonderkid Wesley Gassova in the coming weeks with several clubs alert to his situation, reports Fabrizio Romano.
Romano claimed [30 May] in his Daily Briefing that there are “five or six clubs interested” in the teenager, who has scored twice for Corinthians in a recently-begun Brazilian domestic league season.
Hammers technical director Tim Steidten has flown to Brazil to hold talks with Wesley and his representatives, as well as tying down the club’s first signing in the Julen Lopetegui era, defender Fabricio Bruno.
The report by Romano read: “Wesley Gassova is a top young talent attracting plenty of interest at the moment, with reports about clubs like West Ham and Liverpool tracking the 19-year-old forward from Corinthians.
“My understanding is that West Ham have been scouting him for sure, but there are like five or six clubs interested. It’s still early, so in the next weeks it will become clear.”
West Ham United securing targets early
For all the criticism which surrounded Steidten towards the end of the Premier League season for his rocky public relationship with David Moyes, it cannot be denied he is a proactive, tunnel-visioned operator.
Having secured the long-term appointment of Lopetegui as West Ham’s first-ever head coach, Steidten now has more outright autonomy over transfer dealings and can put a clear and confident transfer proposal on the table for Wesley.
The Hammers are evidently keen on tapping into the Brazilian market, seeking to emulate the policy of many of Europe’s big hitters who have previously offered life-changing opportunities to youngsters from the nation with thrilling potential.

West Ham will be working away at deals aside from Bruno and Wesley, however – the club are reportedly one of several interested in preying on Leeds United for Crysencio Summerville, whilst experienced goalkeeper Wes Foderingham is set to arrive after leaving Sheffield United.
In other West Ham news, a striker at the London Stadium could be about to rejoin his former club.
