Fabrizio Romano shares update on Gianluca Scamacca’s West Ham United future after official statement on Tuesday
Gianluca Scamacca’s change of agent has nothing to do with a summer transfer away from West Ham, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Hammers spent £35m on the Italy international last summer, but he has managed just seven goals after suffering with several injury problems since his transfer.
And after the WSA released a statement on Tuesday (28 February) saying they had terminated his contract with the agency due to a lack of trust, there was speculation about his future at the Hammers, but Romano wrote in his Caught Offside Substack column (1 March) that the two issues are completely unrelated.

“World Soccer Agency announce they’ve decided to part ways with West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca,” he wrote.
“There were problems between Scamacca and his agency so they decided to part ways and Scamacca will sign soon with another agency.
“This has nothing to do with a summer transfer, as of now; it was just an internal problem between Scamacca and the agency.”
Phew
Considering the amount of money we spent on him and how long we had spent searching to find a top striker to come into the team, him leaving so soon would be a nightmare.
It was well known in the summer that his preference was to go elsewhere, but the club convinced him to join and he has looked happy since arriving barring his injury problems.

Stylistically he seems to be a good fit for the Premier League, with a physical style and great technique, but he’s had the bad luck of coming into a team that has really struggled.
But if we’re going to get out of this mess and build for next season then we would all want Scamacca to be part of the squad and team going forward, because he’s so talented.
People were right to be a bit nervy when this news broke, but Romano’s word is gospel when it comes to transfers for the most part and if he says Scamacca is staying then we can close the book on this one.
