ExWHUemployee shares why West Ham United didn’t sell Harrison Ashby to Newcastle United

West Ham pulled the plug on Harrison Ashby’s potential move to Newcastle after Ben Johnson was ruled out for “weeks”, according to ExWHUemployee.

The Hammers had a deadline day full of rumours but ultimately ended the day with no exits or incoming signings happening, with several deals collapsing at the late stage.

After the deadline passed, reliable insider Ex told his Patreon [1 September] explained what caused the deals to collapse for Jan Bednarek, Craig Dawson and Ashby.

West Ham

“West Ham have revealed the reason why they kept on to Harrison Ashby is they believe Ben Johnson will be out for “weeks” and want to use Ashby in Europe,” he said.

“As we have reported all day the decision of Jan Bednarek to join Aston Villa and not us ultimately meant Dawson and Ashby remained at the club.”

Ouch

Bad timing or a blessing in disguise? I guess we’ll find out as the season progresses, but it’s fair to say that deadline day certainly didn’t go to plan for West Ham.

There was a wild goose chase for a right-back that fell through because money didn’t arrive for Dawson when that all collapsed, and ultimately Moyes will likely be unhappy with how the day went.

But with that said, the overall transfer window was a large success for West Ham as they had a record spend during the summer and strengthened the squad considerably in several key positions.

Now they must deal with having a few defensive issues, and with Ben Johnson out for a while there is an added issue for the club to get on with and sort.

For now though, all eyes head to Chelsea and the hope will be that the players who didn’t get their move will be able to get their heads down and get on with it for a few months before revisiting the situation in January.
