ExWHUemployee names potential third deadline day signing for West Ham

West Ham could still sign Dundee Untied youngster Kerr Smith before the 11pm transfer deadline, according to ExWHUemployee.

The reliable Hammers insider admits there’s only a small chance of the deal being completed after Evening Standard journalist Jack Rosser reported that a youngster could join the Irons for £1million before the deadline tonight.

ExWHUemployee has suggested the unnamed player mentioned by Rosser is young Dundee United defender Smith but has made it clear that he cannot be 100 per cent sure at this moment in time.

“It has been confirmed by Jack Rosser that West Ham are in talks for a player who is going to cost less than £1million and I have verified that this is true, although the deal has a small chance of being completed,” said ExWHUemployee on Patreon.

“Kerr Smith from Dundee United a young 16 year old defender is being linked with a late move as well as covered on the last podcast but I can’t confirm at this point it is him.”

One for the future

Smith’s name has done the rounds a fair bit during this summer transfer window.

Earlier this month, the Scottish Sun reported that Southampton were leading the race to sign Smith while Crystal Palace, Leeds, Leicester and Celtic were also keen.

Smith may only be 16 but he’s already played seven times for Dundee United’s senior squad, which suggests he’s someone with a big future ahead of him.

The teenage centre-back has played twice this season for the Tannadice club in their Scottish League Cup matches against Elgin and East Fife.

If he’s already making a mark in first-team football north of the border then you would imagine he would be able to play for teams in the lower reaches of the EFL here in England.

For the future, that bodes really well but for the present, Smith may be an Under-18s player who also gets the odd game in the Under-23s.

But still, Under-23s football in England can be as good as playing first-team football against lower league Scottish teams for Dundee United.

In other West Ham news, the club is in talks to sign this French forward on deadline day.
