Callum Wilson tops Premier League summer signings chart despite what West Ham did to get him

Callum Wilson is standing out among the top five most expensive Premier League strikers signed this summer.

West Ham signed Wilson on a free transfer, with many Hammers fans raising questions over the deal.

David Sullivan has made dreadful moves in the transfer market in the past, so supporters had every right to be worried about West Ham signing a 33-year-old striker.

However, Wilson scored a brace against Bournemouth in the Hammers’ 2-2 draw on Saturday, and is proving everybody wrong.

After a stunning new reveal, Wilson is emerging as the best pound-for-pound striker signed by any Premier League club this summer.

Callum Wilson leads summer signing goalscoring charts for strikers

Wilson was hailed for his performance against the Cherries after the striker helped West Ham to three games unbeaten in the Premier League.

Nuno Espirito Santo wants to keep West Ham up, and he will be delighted to have a striker like Wilson, who knows how to find the back of the net.

The number nine is now joint-top with Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres and Newcastle’s Nick Woltemade for goals scored by summer signings among the five most expensive strikers in the Premier League.

Liverpool’s £200m duo of Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike are beaten for goals by Wilson, and West Ham will surely be glad at the promise the striker has shown.

The Hammers still have options to assess in January, however.

West Ham don’t need to replace Wilson as first-choice striker

There has been talk that Niclas Fullkrug will leave West Ham in January after the German’s transfer has truly proven a failure.

Fullkrug has suffered multiple injuries while at E20, but when he has been fit, the striker has failed to be a goalscorer for the Hammers.

Due to this, and Wilson’s fairly delayed breakthrough in a West Ham shirt, there have been rumours of the Irons in the market for a new number nine in January.

However, Wilson is proving that he can lead the line for West Ham, as the Hammers may actually only need to sign a backup to the Englishman.
