West Ham United move for Filip Kostic could mean Arthur Masuaku days are numbered

West Ham United are looking to bring Eintracht Frankfurt wing-back Filip Kostic to the London Stadium and that could mean Arthur Masuaku’s time at the club is set to end.

The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano revealed (23 July) that the Hammers are in talks with the German side over a potential move to the London Stadium for the 29-year-old Serbian international.

If the wing-back does complete a move to east London then surely Masuaku’s future at the club will be in some doubt.

David Moyes has made no secret of his desire to add a new left-back to his ranks this summer and Kostic would certainly be an upgrade on what the West Ham boss currently has at his disposal.

Aaron Cresswell and Masuaku have both been at the club for an extended period of time and despite being good servants for the Hammers, Moyes has simply got to look at upgrading the position.

Masuaku in particular was a bit part player in the 2021/22 Premier League season, only making 12 appearances.

If Kostic does make a move to the Premier League, it would not be a surprise to see Moyes offload the defender in order to free up space in his squad.

Having three left-backs just doesn’t seem necessary considering the Hammers’ needs at present.

Letting Masuaku depart the London Stadium could give him the wriggle room needed to add further attacking depth to his squad.

The Hammers are close to signing Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca and could well add another striker to their ranks if a departure or two takes place.
