West Ham could be lining up an approach for Joao Felix in the summer as injuries continue to frustrate at the London Stadium.

It has been an increasingly difficult season for the Hammers on all fronts as the departure of David Moyes has had a telling impact.

Both Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter have failed to have a positive impact, but it is fair to say that fitness problems have taken their toll.

This looks set to continue until the bitter end of the campaign, with Felix emerging as the first port of call once the transfer window opens.

West Ham injury to activate Felix interest

There have been a number of problems in forward areas in East London this season, with goals being hard to come by for the most part.

Besides Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek, no one has scored more than five Premier League goals and that needs to change next year.

This could see Felix be an ideal option for the Irons despite a difficult spell of his own after joining Chelsea and then AC Milan in January.

West Ham are said to be “keen” on signing the Portugal international on loan in the summer, with it looking likely he will move on from Stamford Bridge in the coming months [TBR Football, 30 April].

A potential move for the 25-year-old may be pushed to the forefront now after Crysencio Summerville had surgery to aid recovery from a hamstring injury on 29 April.

This is likely to leave the Dutchman out for many months, meaning the need for attacking talent will be huge for Potter in the summer.

After being described as “magic” by Zlatan Ibrahimovic in his spell with Milan [Goal.com, 18 February], Felix could prove to be the man for the Hammers.

Summerville in fresh injury blow at West Ham

After picking up an injury against Aston Villa in Potter’s first game in charge, the 23-year-old summer signing has been absent in E20.

This has been a blow as importance has been piled on form from Bowen, while others like Mohammed Kudus have struggled for goal output.

As a result, knowing that Summerville is going to be out for an extended period will come as a major blow, but could spark a busy summer.

Felix could prove to be the sort of signing that the Irons need, someone with undoubted flair and quality, but in need of love and affection from supporters.
