West Ham ‘to beat Everton’ to sign Nico Tagliafico after transfer developments

West Ham are yet to make significant strides in the transfer window, but that could all be about to change.

The Hammers have already confirmed the permanent signing of Jean-Clair Todibo, after his loan spell at the London Stadium last season.

Furthermore, West Ham moved early to sign Daniel Cummings on a free transfer after his Celtic contract ran down, although he is regarded as one for the future.

Now, the Irons could follow up on those deals with Nicolas Tagliafico after recent reports from Spain.

West Ham eyeing a move for free agent Tagliafico

West Ham’s links with Tagliafico go all the way back to 2021, when the left-back was playing for Dutch giants Ajax.

There were even reports that Ajax accepted a bid from the Irons of £10million for Tagliafico, although a deal never came to fruition.

The World Cup winner ended up joining Lyon in 2022, where he has gone on to make over 100 appearances.

However, the 32-year-old is now a free agent after his contract with the French outfit expired at the end of June.

West Ham and Everton have knocked on the left back’s door as well as Serie A outfit AS Roma, according to Estadio Deportivo (7 July).

There is also interest from Sevilla, who have expressed their limitations when it comes to their salary conditions, and are likely to fall away.

Now, West Ham have the opportunity to make a statement this summer and gazump their rivals to Tagliafico.

It is estimated that the Argentine earned less than half of their top earners, Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta.

Moreover, several high earners have left the London Stadium this summer, with Danny Ings and Kurt Zouma’s wages in particular opening up funds.

Hammers can replace Aaron Cresswell with Tagliafico

Aaron Cresswell departed the London Stadium this summer after the 35-year-old’s contract expired.

Now, Potter has Emerson and Oliver Scarles to choose from at left back, but he must add further competition.

Scarles is an intriguing proposition for the East London outfit and made 15 Premier League appearances last season.

However, Potter may not consider the 19-year-old capable of being a regular starter yet, which could force them into the market.

As for Emerson, he has been an inconsistent performer over the years, although he did make 31 league appearances last term, and has been linked with an exit, too.

Tagliafico has performed at the highest level, with a World Cup, two Copa America titles, and three Eredivisie titles to his name.

Now, it is time for him to grace the Premier League with West Ham, who must make sure they blow their competition out of the water.
