Aaron Cresswell will say farewell to West Ham this summer.

The 35-year-old has been with the London Stadium outfit for over a decade, featuring 367 times in the Claret and Blue shirt.

However, that association will come to an end once the season concludes as the ex-Ipswich star is set to depart East London upon the expiry of his contract.

Cresswell testimonial update shared after exit announced

Cresswell has been a loyal servant to the Irons over the last 11 years and helped them to the UEFA Europa Conference League trophy in 2023.

However, a report from The Athletic's Roshane Thomas (16 May) claims that there are no plans for a testimonial for the Liverpool-born star.

It states that the reception he will receive for the Hammers' last home match against Nottingham Forest (18 May) should be "a fitting exit."

West Ham need to move in new direction

It is a shame that there will be no testimonial for Cresswell as he has served the E20 club with distinction during his time in Rush Green.

However, the Hammers cannot afford to be sentimental this summer, they need to be ruthless and focus solely on their transfer business.

There is no room for distraction as Potter plans to completely overhaul the squad and fix the mess that he inherited from Julen Lopetegui and former sporting director Tim Steidten.

David Sullivan needs to back the former Chelsea man to implement his own squad and playing methods after a dismal start to his reign, that has seen his side win just four of 17 matches in all competitions.

Potter will hope that the 2-0 victory over Manchester United can be a springboard and kick-start his reign in the dugout, rather than just being a flash in the pan after ending a nine-match winless run.

The departure of the likes of Cresswell, Lukasz Fabianski, Vladimir Coufal and Danny Ings will be sad but it is necessary if the club want to move in the right direction.

They can not afford to carry passengers, who will not contribute much to the team at this point, that would be reckless.
