Potter makes worrying West Ham admission to Jamie Carragher live on Sky Sports

West Ham United fell to defeat once more on Sunday, losing 2-1 against Nottingham Forest.

Despite beating Manchester United 2-0 last time out, West Ham’s final game at the London Stadium this season did not go the way of the home side.

Jarrod Bowen showed his quality once more, scoring the only home goal of the game, but it was not enough to cancel out the opposition’s efforts.

With only one more game left this term, Graham Potter will be ready to turn his focus to the summer transfer window, with plenty of work to be done.

Potter’s latest admission is worrying for West Ham

Potter certainly hasn’t had the start to life at West Ham that he would’ve wanted and, as a result, the pressure is already on.

Resources were limited over the winter window, leaving the boss with little wiggle room when it came to new additions.

Those who were introduced have failed to have the desired impact, with Evan Ferguson putting to bed any opportunities of an extended stay in East London.

The Hammers have also announced a mass overhaul, with several first-team players set to leave the London Stadium this summer upon the expiry of their contracts.

West Ham need to trim their squad.

With that in mind, there is plenty of work expected to be done over the summer and the pressure is on Potter to get things right.

However, when asked live on Sky Sports Premier League, as shared via X (18 May), about what lies ahead in the summer transfer window, Potter suggested it could be a modest window.

The Irons boss told Jamie Carragher: “We want to try and trim the number a little bit, make it a little bit more aligned to how we want to play, adjust as normal. But there are a lot of good players here as well.

“It’s not major surgery, it’s just adjustments.”

West Ham need major work

Potter may just have been playing the situation down, but his comments about the summer window must be concerning for the Hammers supporters listening to him speak.

Although any business will have to be measured to ensure they comply with PSR restrictions, there is no doubt that plenty of change is needed.

As the boss correctly points out, ensuring his side plays football in the way that he sees fit certainly is key to the project, ensuring everyone is on the same page.

However, there also needs to be a level of player with the quality to do so and new faces are needed to boost that.

What’s more, the attitude of some has been underwhelming this term and the Irons need to make sure that anyone in their ranks is fully committed to the cause.

Let’s hope Potter isn’t underestimating the job that lies ahead, otherwise he could soon be under lots more pressure.
