West Ham's next opponent Norwich without American international Josh Sargent for Premier League clash

West Ham’s next Premier League opponent Norwich City will be without American international Josh Sargent for the fixture at Carrow Road.

Sargent, 22, has four goals and three assists this season in the Premier League.

The American featured for 14 minutes in Norwich’s 2-0 away loss to Aston Villa.

It was today confirmed by Dean Smith in his pre-match press conference that Sargent is out for the season: “Kenny McClean and Josh Sargent are expected to miss the rest of the season,” said Smith.

Norwich will also be without centre-half Christoph Zimmermann who has a groin injury.

Chance for the Irons

This is simply a must win for David Moyes’ men.

They currently occupy a Uefa Conference League berth however, Bruno Lage’s Wolverhampton Wanderers are within touching distance of Moyes’ side.

The Hammers’ hopes of a return to Europa League football next season do look slim.

They are six points behind Manchester United with a game in-hand.

It will take a few poor results for Ralf Rangnick’s side and for West Ham to go on a good run for Europa League football to return to the London Stadium.

David Moyes has a huge task on his hands picking his side up after their semi-final heartache in Frankfurt.

However, it is something he simply has to do to continue their progression over recent years.

European football was promised at the London Stadium and it needs to become a regular occurrence, season on season.

If West Ham want to keep their best players and attract talent to the London Stadium then merely being a midtable Premier League club won’t cut it.

In other West Ham news, a BBC pundit has urged West Ham to sign a £40million rated Chelsea wantaway, saying he would be a “great fit”.
