West Ham Women's expert sheds light on 2023 struggles

We’re delighted to welcome Michelle Irons as our exclusive West Ham Women expert. Each week she’ll be giving her views on the biggest talking points at Victoria Road…

West Ham United Women’s expert Michelle Irons has rued the Hammers’ lack of “cutting edge” with Paul Konchesky’s side enduring a tough run of form since the turn of the year.

The Irons haven’t recorded a Women’s Super League victory since 11 December 2022 when they beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0.

With just one point registered in 2022, Irons has shed light on why things aren’t quite going right for the Hammers at present.

“West Ham have lacked a cutting edge in their games since the start of the year,” Irons exclusively told West Ham Zone.

“I would say we have also started slowly and have struggled to take our chances. We have taken one point from the league since December.

“Having said that we have added to the squad including Amalie Thestrup and do create chances however the results are just not falling for us at the moment.”

It promises to be an important end of the season for the Hammers with Manchester City and Chelsea still to come for Konchesky’s side.

Irons will be hoping for some of the Hammers’ senior players to hit the heights they have previously set. The Women’s expert has previously been wowed by Dagný Brynjarsdóttir’s performances and the Icelandic international will need to get back to her best between now and the end of the season.
