West Ham United watch Jakub Kiwior closely as Atletico Madrid eye £5.2m transfer

West Ham United face competition from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid for Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior, according to Fichajes.net.

It’s believed Kiwior is also being monitored by Juventus, with the 22-year-old being valued at around £5.2million.

Fichajes.net report (22 November) the Hammers are watching the Poland defender closely. However, it’s also been suggested Atletico Madrid are confident in getting a January deal completed for Kiwior.

Shame

West Ham were working hard in the summer to get a deal over the line for the defender with 90min suggesting (17 August) the club were in talks with Spezia over a move for Kiwior. It now appears the 22-year-old could well be a hard deal to complete with a number of clubs now vying for his services.

With Craig Dawson looking likely to depart in the January window and Angelo Ogbonna in the latter stages of his career, another central defender could well be on the agenda for David Moyes. When it comes to Dawson, fans will be sad to see their hero from the 2021/22 season depart, but also accept it is the best move for the club and the player.

Dawson is eager to move back up north closer to his family, and with his minutes limited this season it does make sense for all concerned. Kiwior would certainly add defensive depth for Moyes, but also versatility, with the Spezia defender able to operate in central midfield.

He is currently playing for Poland in Qatar and if he has a good World Cup, his value will only continue to rise after the tournament.
